The contest is open to all middle school students.
Speeches must be at least 4 minutes long and no longer than 5 minutes in length. The use of props, special costumes or clothing is not permitted. Please do not identify yourself, your parents, your school, the specific Optimist Club, or your community in your speech. Your speech will be judged by poise (appearance and personality), content of speech (theme and content), delivery & presentation (voice, volume, pronunciation, gestures, eye contact, sincerity, and emphasis), and overall effectiveness (appeal, impression, attitude, and effect).
A typed, double-spaced copy of your speech must be turned in when you present.
A memorized speech is preferred, but not required
Your typed copy of your speech is due to the office on Thursday, February 22nd. There will be no exceptions. Selected semi-finalists will present their speeches to administration, teachers, and staff members on Wednesday, February 28th at 3:00pm.
Our school will select four finalists (two boys and two girls) who will compete against the other schools for medallions and scholarship prizes! ($100 for 1st place, $50 for 2nd, and $35 for 3rd) Winners will then advance to the Optimist Zone Competition for a chance to win $2,500 scholarships at the District Finals!
