Meeting called to order at 6:34 pm


Meeting Minutes:  Last month’s minutes approved.

ASB / Principal’s Report:

  • School had a great band assembly and the district had their music festival.

  • Mesa View is district champs in track and field!  Thank you to coaches Mr. Vlachos, Ms. Brambila, and Ms. Manz.

  • Had the Gate Open House.

  • 8th grade science testing is coming up.  We are piloting the new testing.  No results sent to parents.

  • High school:  Ocean View and Marina have already come.  HB coming soon.

  • Suggestion by parent:  don’t announce grade awards in front of peers.

  • Promotion info was sent home.

Old Business:

  • Next year’s board – Andrew and Cindy are confirmed.  Still need President and Secretary.

  • We will try to recruit from feeder schools – Hope, Circle, Golden.

  • We need to be there at 5th grade night (date TBA)

  • Open House – food trucks scheduled (TK Burger and Kona Ice)

  • 8th grade dance – DJ is booked, chair is meeting after spring break.

  • Restaurant nights:  Andrew made reusable signs.  New ideas – Pieology is decided for May.  

  • Teacher appreciation on 5/10:  late start day.  Teachers will be provided breakfast burritos.

  • Discussion on conference week snacks – teachers enjoyed them.

New Business:

  • Student store – made $2,700.

  • District roundtable:  New ELA ELD program teachers are working on this year.  It is a whole new curriculum, going to approval for adoption.  Could be potentially all online.  Parents will be introduced to the new system.

  • School consolidation discussion:  Sun View & OVPP.  There will dialogue with parents at those schools.

  • District is asking PTSO presidents to ask for parents to be part of the discussion.

  • California Dashboard is up and running.

Treasurer’s Report:

  • Cash balance:  $56,291.

  • Need to spend down to below $50,000, preferable to $30,000.

  • Ideas to fund:  Robotics is in it’s 3rd year and has made a request for funds to get more robots in the hand of more students.  Plus maintenance for the robots.  Amount requested – $4,609.  Motion to approve – all in favor.  The motion passes.

Open Input:

  • Mural for the handball courts:  Yvonne referred Lindsay who will talk to Mr. Lempert.

  • Q:  Will there be a panorama picture?  Yes, on the 18th.

  • The book fair is very busy!  

  • Next meeting:  5/9/17 at 6:30pm.
