Mesa View PTSO General Meeting Minutes

Tuesday, March  11, 2017


Randy Lempert, Kathleen Karnowski, Yvonne Redford, Andrew Lothian, Patty Nagatoshi, Sue Restmeyer,

Meeting called to order at 6:39 pm

Meeting Minutes:  February minutes were approved.

ASB & President’s Report – Randy:

  • Spirit assembly and days continue.  Coming up is Western Day.

  • Thank you to PTSO for supporting teachers with grants.  Grants were used for:  music for Mr. Nicolosi, music assembly sound system, ordered and received flexible seating for Ms. Abernathy, math supplies and projector.

  • There will be a Coffee with the Principal held in May.

  • Chrome Book carts came in!

Love Bag Sales – Sue:

  • $2100 in catalog sales and $1600 in online sales.  $3700 total with $900 net.

Old Business:

  • We will wait on  mural on the ball wall.

  • 8th grade dance chair is Rachel Truman.  She has started early and has contacted the DJ.

  • Restaurant Nights:  Del Taco earned about $100.  Brusters was about $60.  Next one is in April at Chipotle – discussion on whether to have it before or after spring break.  Suggestion is during conference week.  Will try to hold it during lunch hours.

  • Box Tops:  Check was returned, but a replacement has been sent to us.

New Business / Budget Notes:

  • Note:  The performance to budget report does not include online sales of Love Bags.

  • Note:  “Office” line item are requests from Sally for the school office.

  • Dude Be Nice assembly is coming up.

  • Trying to get donations for student incentives (gift cards, etc.)

District Roundtable:

  • The California Dashboard is now available.  It shows statistics for districts and schools and will look at a 3 year window with data for suspension rate, EL, etc.

  • Measure R:  Sun View, OVPP, and Park View may be absorbed as a site that schools can move into during construction.  Technology will go with the schools.  District is discussing maybe bulldozing and putting in portables.  Info on the district website about the 8 year plan.  Kitchens are in the plans to make school lunches.  

  • Charter School:  A petition has been made to add a Waldorf style charter school to OVSD.  The petition was denied and and appeal has been made to the Board of Education.  Hearing will be held on April 5th.  Some issues:  OVSD would have to use existing funds to operate this school.

  • Hope View is doing a parent night on cyber security.

  • District is hiring bus drivers.

Student Store:  Doing well, income is about $2,300.

Open Items:

  • Conference week – week of April 10th.  PTSO will get healthy snacks for the teachers

  • Teacher Appreciation Week – Brandi will order breakfast burritos.

  • Open House – May.  We will try for food trucks again this year – TK Burgers and Kona Ice.

  • Next year’s board:  Andrew and Cindy will stay on.  Sue will do spirit wear and Stacy will do membership.

  • Parent University at HBUHSD – April 20th.  Topic is “Parenting Teenage Boys”

  • Book Fair?  Librarian is handling it.  Does money go through PTSO?  Yes, but current librarian would prefer not to handle the money.

  • Website:  Anthony is getting is up and going soon.
